Chippingdale Cricket Club

Chippingdale Cricket Club are a long established cricket club in Worthing, founded in 1897, playing at The Rotary Ground on the Upper Brighton Road since the 1980’s.

We have a thriving cricket club which, through the hard work from all of its members who contribute freely, can boast the following:

Junior section formed in 1994 where we currently have increasing numbers of colts between the ages of 7 – 16 who have training and playing program in place from February until August. These encompass Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16 age groupsAn active Development Plan where in conjunction with Sussex CC we seek to improve in every area of the Club for the benefit of its members and supporters. In 2010, and for the first time in the Club’s history, saw the start of our Chipps girl’s teams ranging from U13 to U15 and this have proved very successful. Links to local schools (Whytemead First, Downsbrook Middle,The Vale, Bramber, Thomas ‘A’ Becket, St Andrews High and Davison)Increasing numbers of adult members playing with 3 Saturday Teams, 1 Sunday Team, 1 Indoor Team and 1 Evening League Team and Four league teams in the West Sussex Invitation Cricket League.

In 2007 we were awarded Sport England’s Clubmark accreditation which proves that the club has a strong desire to develop on all fronts both on and off the field. At that time we were one of only 17 Clubs in the whole of Sussex to achieve this where success was born out of the commitment of a large number of active volunteers and coaches.

In 2010 we were voted the Sussex Sports Club of the Year, a very prestigious award which we are very proud to have achieved.

In addition through linking in and participating in the ECB Chance to Shine Schools Project this has also entitled us to apply for a grant for an artificial wicket which has now been installed at the Rotary and is a very positive sign that development of the Rotary is happening.

Based on our long tenure at the Rotary it is our intention to continue to build on our success thus far and our focus is to develop some much needed practice facilities, through sponsorship opportunities via local businesses and ultimately benefit our local community, its residents and the future generations.
